Born in Newport, Rhode Island, Mordecai Myers (1776-1871) was a merchant, military officer, and politician. From 1831 to 1834 Myers served as Democratic Assemblyman in the state legislature of New York. In this report to the Assembly, Myers rails against what he views as excessive parades by the military, opining that the troops would actually benefit more from their month of military duty.
