R. Chaim Yoseph David Azulai or “Chida” as he is referred to (1724-1806) is reckoned by some to be the greatest Sephardic sage of the modern era. In his capacity as shaliach (emissary) on behalf of the Eretz Israel community, Azulai spent most of his mature years wandering about Europe and North Africa. He was buried in Livorno, Italy. In 1960 his remains were transferred to the Har ha-Menuchoth Cemetery in the Givath Shaul section of Jerusalem
