Haym Salomon (1740-85) was an early American merchant and Revolutionary patriot, who aided the war effort by way of his business as a broker and commission merchant, extending liberal advances of cash to officers of the Government. Salomon was an important contributor to the founding of Congregation Mikve Israel of Philadelphia and worked asssiduously to attain political rights for Jews in America. “…(Salomon) constitutes an outstanding example of devotion to the American cause.” DAB, XVI 313-14.
