These two Psalters each contain a dedication to one of two American religious pioneers. The first is to “The very Reverend and Pious John Eliot…Venerable Apostle of the Indians in America,” renowned for his Indian Bible - the first Bible printed in America. The second Psalter is dedicated to Dr. Increase Mather, President of Harvard College “unequaled in reputation and power by any native-born American Puritan of his generation.” (DAB)
