The grandson of the great SHeLa”H Hakodosh, Isaiah ben Jacob (1633-98) was born in Cracow, where he received his early education, before studying at the Yeshivah of Brest-Litovsk and subsequently Vilna. He fled to Italy to escape the Chmielnicki massacres and variously lived in Ferrara, Mantua and Verona. This, his only published work, comprises novellae to Choshen Mishpat parts 69-149 as well as eighteen cases concerning the principles of the “migo” plea-bargain. The work was greatly prized by the Talmudists of the era. See EJ, VIII col. 994
