Isaac Leeser’s second published book and his first original work, was an outgrowth of his defense of Judaism that appered in American periodicals in 1829. It was because of these arguments that Leeser was invited to occupy the pulpit of Philadelphia’s Mikveh Israel; the base from which he established himself as leader of traditional Judaism in America.
