“A descendant of the Nisrafei Oufrane (3rd generation), the martyrs of Oufrane who were burned alive for refusing to convert to Islam, R. Yosef ben Moshe Knafo was born in 1823 in Mogador and lived in Marrakesh where he studied under R. Abraham Coriat. From 1859 he served as rabbi of the LaKahal synagogue.
