One of the great rabbis of Hungary, R. Chaim Tzvi Hirsch Mannheimer was a devoted disciple of the Chasam Sofer. His Chiddushim were published in Ein Habdolach (Brooklyn, 1944). R. Yechezkel Banet (1862-1913) was appointed rabbi of Seini (or, Leuchtenburg) in Romania. His father, whom Rabbi Mannheimer mentions in this letter, was R. Gershon Wolf Banet (1830-1910), R. Mannheimer’s successor as the Av Beth Din of Ungvar. R. Yechezkel’s grandfather was R. Shlomo Ganzfried (1804-86), author of the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch.
