A student of R. Solomon Luria (MaHaRSHa”L), the author (1550-1619) was later appointed Chief Rabbi of Prague, the most important Ashkenazic center of Jewish life at the time. He is best known for his Klei Yakar (“Precious Vessel”), a popular commentary to the Chumash that is now included in most all editions of the Mikra’oth Gedoloth.
