”Reb Velvel” (or, “The GRY’Z”) was successor to his father R. Chaim Soloveitchik of Brisk and grandfather, R. Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, the Bais HaLevi. He emigrated to Eretz Israel where he reestablished the Brisker Yeshiva and was regarded as the leader of Lithuanian Chareidi Orthodoxy. R. Yisrael Chaim Kaplan (d. 1970), was the Menahel of Yeshivas Toras Chesed in Brisk. His father-in-law was R. Yeruchom Levovitz and among his students at the yeshiva in Brisk was R. Aharon Leib Steinman. R. Levi Yitzchak Kahane (d. 1950) was rabbi of Congregation Tiferes Yisroel in Brooklyn, a teacher at Yeshivas Torah Vodaas and author of Masas Beis haLevi. His father was R. Nachman Kahane of Tzfat, and his nephew, through his brother Charles, was Meir Kahane.
