R. Simcha Zelig received the Beth Din appointment in Brisk at the insistence of his close friend R. Chaim Soloveitchik. Many of the leading rabbis of the 20th century received Semicha from him. R. Reuven Katz (1880-1963) was a Torah scholar of note in Lithuania before he emigrated to the United States, where he served for a short time as rabbi of Bayonne, NJ. In 1932 he settled in Petach Tikvah, where he led his prestigious yeshiva. He compiled the Talmudic commentary Degel Reuven and Duda’ei Reuven on the Torah.
