Horeb was published shortly before Rabbiner Hirsch turned thirty years of age. In time, the book became the most celebrated of his works and established the Author’s reputation as an insightful and original Jewish thinker. Hirsch set down here his unique system of Ta'amei HaMitzvoth (rationales of the precepts) noting numerous sources culled from a wide range of Rabbinic literature. See E.M. Klugman, Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, A Biography (1996) pp. 67-72.
