Chavatzelet was a Zionist newspaper printed in Jerusalem, which ran from the latter half of the 19th into the early 20th century. The present issues come from the fourth year of Israel Dov Frumkin’s editorship. Under Frumkin, the paper was published weekly, and focused on local issues in Jerusalem, especially community tensions and the need for adequate secular education; he also added a literary supplement. For a time, Chavatzelet was the primary source of news in Palestine. The first editor of Chavatzelet was Israel Bak, who issued the first Hebrew book to be printed in Jerusalem.
