<<Provenance:>> The Holly Solomon Gallery, New York. Depicting the Jews of Kaifeng, Henan Province, China. Yin Xin was born in 1959 in Kashgar, a remote Muslim town in Turkistan, Western China. During the Cultural Revolution his family were exiled to the Mongolian border where an early exposure to different religions and cultures was his first introduction to art. In 1988, Yin Xin left the rigidness of China to study at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and in 1994, he settled in Paris. In his art, Yin Xin paints the many facets of China, using his perspective to capture earlier periods, portraying the Chinese of the era with a mostly muted palette reminiscent of photography.
