A delicately worked drawing of a Chassidic young man engrossed in study. Russian-born Jehudo Meier Epstein (1870-1945) moved to Vienna in 1888 in order to pursue studies in art. By 1894 he had a professorship at the Wiener Akademie. Epstein emigrated to South Africa in 1935 where he died ten years later.
