“Do not rely on letters sent from unreliable people in Jerusalem. The information you received that the recent epidemic is over is not true. Just the opposite. It started on Sukkoth and after Shabbath Bereishith got worse. Many people died during the month of Cheshvan. I am informing you of this so that you will know in the future not to believe letters received from Jerusalem except from those you are certain you may trust.”
