PRICE REALIZED $1,000
Collection of regulations of the municipality of Baden (in the canton of Aargau in northern Switzerland), including regulations for Jews and the renewal of the Jewish charter from 1760 (see pp. 109-129). Since the mid-17th century, the canton of Aargau was the only Swiss federal canton where a restricted number of Jewish families were tolerated as Schutzjuden. By 1774, Jews were permitted to live in just two towns in Switzerland: Endingen and Lengnau. Jews were forbidden to buy land or to own houses, and they were not permitted to live under the same roof as Christians.
