Gabersee (DP Camp, Germany): 17th Cheshvan 1949

Est: $3,000 - $5,000
Relatively little known, Gabersee was a DP camp in the Munich district, located near Wasserburg, in the American Zone of Occupation. It opened in March, 1946, under UNRRA auspices, and by the end of 1947 had a Jewish DP population of 2,000. After mass emigration in 1948, Gabersee became a camp for those, who due to illness or related problems, were not able to travel. The camp closed in June, 1950. Needless to say, consecrating a wedding, most especially in a DP Camp in Germany, indicated the promise of new life in a post-Holocaust world.
