A satire alternating between sarcasm and bitterness. Using the themes of the traditional Passover Hagadah, this work describes the distress of Jews suffering in Germany, Rumania and Poland. The introduction questions how can one sing on Passover whilst our brethren, under the rule of such wicked governments, are drowning in a sea of tears and blood? Bedikath Chametz (the ceremonial search for Chametz) is here describes as being how the German-Nazis search and violate the possessions of Jews and picket their businesses (p. 5). The song “Echad Mi Yodea” (who knows one?) is referred to as being Hitler, who proclaims that only he is leader over the heavens and upon the earth (p. 21).
