Portrait of Rabbi Ephraim (ben Israel) Elnkaoua (Alnaqua) of Tlemcen (1359-1442). Featuring vignettes of: The rabbi’s arrival on lion-back with rein of snake; the Synagogue; the “source,” or ritual bath of the rabbi; the entrance to the cemetery; the tomb of the rabbi. All adorned with cornucopia of motifs, Stars-of-David, a crown of Torah and an open Hebrew book flanked by rampant lions. Unexamined out of frame. 11 x 15 inches to frame.
