This extensive <<unpublished>> manuscript is a comprehensive history of the Golan Heights. It serves both as a valuable guide to the locales of the Golan, discussing in great depth the history and archeology of the region, as well as a memoir of the pitched battles between the Israel Defense Forces and the Syrian Army in June of 1967, in which the author of this exhaustive study fought in. Paul Zev Hartal saw action in the Six Day War both in Jerusalem and the Golan Heights and provides here a rare first-hand account of his experiences compiled shortly after Israel captured the Golan. In his civilian life Hartal worked as an urban and regional planner, and his scholarly approach is well reflected in this detailed and compelling manuscript. Hartal (b. Szeged, Hungary, 1936), lived in Israel from 1957-73, whereupon he settled in Montreal. He has since achieved renown as an artist, credited as the originator of Lyrical Conceptualism (Lyco Art).
