Isaac Euchel (1758-1804), one of the founding fathers of the Haskalah movement, prepared the very first translation of the Hebrew prayers into the German language. Fürst (Pt. I, p. 259) records the second edition of 1799 as appearing in Vienna. He writes that this second edition leaves out the remarks (i.e., notes) by Euchel. Evidently, there appeared in that year two imprints - our Berlin imprint with notes, and a Vienna imprint without notes.
