In the introduction the author urges the settlement in Eretz Israel of Torah observant Jews to counter the influence of “nationalistic” Jews. He includes many interesting observations of religious practices, including a detailed account of a visit to the Western Wall on the holiday of Shevu’oth, prior to which he witnessed the practice of Jews knocking nails into the wall of the Kotel as a sign that they will, in time, return in peace (author states that the Wall was full of nails).
