Mordechai Lowenstamm. Kethav Yosher [polemic against the Reform movement].
Breslau: 1838
Est: $300 - $400
The author, son of R. Aryeh Leib Lowenstamm of Rotterdam, is renowned for this polemic against Abraham Geiger and the latter’s candidacy as prospective rabbi of Breslau. In the poetic introduction he defiantly states: “I am not afraid of abuse… who bark like dogs.” In the final paragraph, the author bids farewell to Breslau after 36 years: “If you go to the left, then I will go to the right, to my birthplace of Rotterdam.”
