The anonymous author of the marginalia found in this volume was obviously a scholar of the highest caliber. The notes display great erudition coupled with in-depth critical analysis. The previous owner, R. Shlomo Brudna, lived in Dinaburg (Dvinsk), Latvia, and stemmed from a well known Rabbinical family with members residing in Smargon (near Vilna) and other Lithuanian towns.
