Introduction contains a profile of “the man of war fighting for Torah” R. Ya’akov Emden, and characterizes the relationship and correspondence exchanged with Dubno. The author composed the elegy in 34 stanzas in recognition of Emden’s 34 published works. Solomon Dubno (1738-1813), one-time collaborator with Mendelssohn in the Bi’ur project, later abandoned a modernist agenda encouraged by traditional rabbinic colleagues. See EJ, Vol. VI, cols. 251-2.
