A translation of and commentary to the Sepher HaBahir, the earliest extant Kabbalistic text and one of the most obscure and difficult. The doctoral thesis by Gershom Scholem (1897-1982), the founder of the modern, academic study of Kabbalah. Title page reproduces the woodcut by Hans Burgkmayr that appeared in Paulus Ricius’ “Portae Lucis,” Augsburg, 1516.
