<<A Bomberg Gemara with important marginal notes.>> Written in various early hands these notes contain many readings and corrections that were first published in the Shitah Mekubetzeth by R. Betzalel Aschkenazi in the Vilna edition of the Talmud. Also contains many notations that remain unpublished, or were published with variations. Clearly the scholar who wrote these notes had access to older manuscripts (see f. 41b). Many notes are cited in the name of R’P - that is, Rabbeinu Peretz (see f. 14b, f. 20b lower right, f. 41b upper right, f. 56a, ff. 57a-b, f. 60b, f. 66b). One of the notes on f. 66b is cited in Shita Mekubetzeth with a slightly variant wording, as does f. 56a. A note on f. 67a cites a passage in the name of the Riv”a which is not found in the standard Vilna edition. <<Much wealth of Talmudic insight remains to be uncovered from this intriguing, annotated volume.>>
