The marginalia alongside each paragraph allude to its contents: “A difficult question in the understanding of the Sha’ch” (f. 11b); “criticism of the comment of the Rashb’a” (f. 17b); “Chakira Gedolah” (f. 42b); etc. Although the identity of the author is thus far unknown, it is clear he was a prominent Torah scholar as he takes many of the well known and important commentaries on the Shulchan Aruch to task. His language is confidently forceful - indeed as is his very handwriting too.
