Discusses the Laws applicable to the Holy Land, based on Maimonides and in particular the rulings of the author’s mentor R. Elijah, the Gaon of Vilna. The previous owner R. Jonathan Eliasberg (1850-98) was a prominent rabbinic figure and together with his father Mordechai Eliasberg and R. Samuel Mohilever were the leaders of the early Zionist movement in Russia. It is of course appropriate that this classic work concerning Eretz Israel belonged to this important leader of the Chovevei Tzion movement.
