Salomon Breuer (1850-1926) married the youngest daughter of R. Samson Raphael Hirsch. He served as Rabbi of Papa, Hungary, until 1888, whereupon he succeeded his recently deceased father-in-law as the leading community rabbi of Frankfurt a/Main and so in essence, became the titular head of German Orthodoxy. The author (1822-99), was Rabbi of Nanash, Hungary, and a prime disciple of the Chassam Sofer, the Yismach Moshe and R. Chaim Sanzer. Rabbi Breuer studied in Pressburg under the Kessav Sofer and was thus well acquainted with many of the disciples of the Chassam Sofer.
