Most unusual for three of the foremost Rabbis of Russia/Lithuania to jointly write such a warm letter of recommendation. Composed for the benefit of a shochet forced to leave Russia “as his life was in danger.” The Netziv writes: “The good eye of your honor is worth more than one hundred intermediaries”. He blesses Rabbi Salant with “long days and many years on the holy mountain of Jerusalem.” Indeed Rabbi Salant lived until the mature age of 93. See M. Zeira, Rabotheinu Shebagolah, Vol. I (1996) pp. 86-95.
