A modernist approach to a traditional ceremonial object.
Turkish born David Palombo (1920-1966) immigrated to Palestine as a child and later studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Among his works are the famed gates to the memorial building “Tents of Remembrance” at Yad Vashem (1960) and at the Knesset (1966). Palombo’s aesthetic is reminiscent of Alberto Giacometti’s attenuated, rough-edged, shadow forms.
