Lotzki, Abraham (Ed.) Shivchei Todah LeKir”ah [song of praise in honor of Czar Nicholas I]

Hebrew and Judeo-Tatar. Printed in double-columns. Lower margins uncut. ff. (8). Dampsoiled. Modern calf. 4to. Vinograd, Eupatoria 2; Mehlman 1833.

Eupatoria: n.p 1833

Est: $2,000 - $2,500
The first dated Hebrew book printed in Eupatoria. Devotional poems by Abraham Firkovich and others, composed in gratitude to the Czar for exempting Karaites from military service and for drafting only the “Talmudic Jews.” A remarkable volume, that testifies to the rift between the Karaites and traditional Jewry - still so pervasive in the 19th century.
