These walking stick handles were made in France during the Dreyfus Affair. It has been suggested that this is a caricature of Captain Alfred Dreyfus. See Catalogue of the Jewish Museum of Hohenems, Anti-Semitic Objects (2005) nos. 204-6; see also See Sotheby’s Tel Aviv, Judaica, 8th October 1996, Lot 236.
