Rabbi Yehuda Leib Chasman studied in Yeshivat Kelm under Reb Simcha Zissel Ziev, in the Yeshiva of Volozhin under the Netziv and in the Yeshiva of Brisk, under Rabbi Chaim Halevi Soloveichik. In 1897 he was appointed Mashgiach of the Telz Yeshiva and in 1908, with the approval of the Chofetz Chaim, established his own Yeshiva in Stutzin (near Vilna). In 1926, he emigrated to Eretz Israel, serving as Mashgiach of the Yeshiva in Hebron. The celebrated Maggid of Jerusalem R. Shalom Schwadron was one of his prominent disciples who posthumously published his teacher’s discourses under the name Or Yahal.
