The Hebrew headstone in this photograph reads: “For the child, young in days, Tzvi son of Yom-Tov, born 1855 and died 1861…” In the plinth below, an additional engraving in English and Hebrew characters reads: “Union Field Cem[etery], Cong[regation] Rodeph Sholom Ansche Chesed.”
Indeed Union Field Cemetery was jointly operated by two of the New Yorks City’s oldest Congregations: Ansche Chesed and Rodeph Sholom.
