This richly illustrated work, first issued in Prague in 1608 and titled “Journey from Bohemia to the Holy Land, by way of Venice and the Sea” is likely the first published account of the Near East by a Czech traveler. The author, Christoph Harant von Polschitz und Weseritz (1564-1621), was a diplomat, composer and humanist and one of the most important personalities in Bohemia in his time.
