The Rebbe related in the name of his father-in-law, that the Chassidim of Kopust went to the printer and eliminated most of the lengthy additions of the Rebbe Mahra”sh, substituted comments from the Tzemach Tzedek instead. The Chassidim of Kopust then announced that the Chassidim of Lubavitch falsely published the comments of the Tzemach Tzedek in the name of the Mahra”sh. The Rebbe stated that the Chassidim of Lubavitch who published this work were negligent by allowing the Chassidim of Kopust to trick them. Therefore, even though this edition was published by Lubavitch, it was not widely used by the Chassidim of Lubavitch. However, many important shorter comments of the Mahra”sh do indeed appear in this edition.
