Between November 1942 and May 1943 Tunisia was occupied by Germany. Upon arrival, the Nazis immediately established a local council, or Judenrat, to do their biding. This was followed by arbitrary local executions, large-scale plunder, ultimately leading to deportation to the camps in Europe. See EJ, Vol. XV, cols. 1447-8.
