Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), the Elder Statesman of the Zionist Movement, lived in Vienna from 1878 until his death in 1904. He founded the weekly “Die Welt” for the dissemination of the Zionist idea. He sat for this portrait in his Vienna study in the year before his premature death in 1904. Provenance: Kestenbaum & Company, Sale 12 Lot 315.
