The Swedish Parliament in 1779 granted Jews the right to settle in Stockholm, Göteborg, and Norrköping. However, due to the conservative immigration policy of the government, as of 1838 in all of Sweden there were but 900 Jews, the majority residing in Stockholm and Göteborg.
