“Renewer of the Hebrew Sonnet” - Cecil Roth. Contains some fifty sonnets, that is, poems of fourteen lines. Many of the poems are based on motifs found in the Talmud and rabbinic literature through the ages. Some are reflections on the various Biblical commandments, such as the shofar sounded on Rosh Hashanah, and the Tefilin worn daily. See C. Roth,The History of the Jews of Italy (1946) p. 400.
