This short treatise was presented to the King of Portugal by an anonymous courtier, advising His Majesty in regard to view the status of New Christians On f. 40v appears a reference to Portuguese Jews who have settled in Holland. The anonymous author notes that they are active in the Dutch Company (of Trade) and have found synagogues in the rebel states. This is likely a reference to the Dutch settlement of Brazil, that had previously been a Portuguese overseas territory
