Document of payment by the Infantry of the City of Porto in favor of Dom Manoel de Azevedo. Issued toward the end of the Guerra da Restauração (War of Restoration) during which Portugal successfully overthrew Spanish rule after sixty years of the so-called Iberian Union. Dom Alfonso VI (1643-1683), ruled as King of Portugal from 1656-67, at which time he was deposed by his brother Dom Pedro II, and exiled to the Isle of Terceira in the Azores. just a few months after this document was drawn up. Dom Sancho Manoel de Vilhena (1610-77) a celebrated war hero, was named first Conde (Count) de Vila Flor by King Alfonso VI in 1661
