Both these works are considered classic studies of the Portuguese language. According to H.P. Salomon et al, the celebrated 16th-century chronicler and grammarian Duarte Nunes de Leão (1530-1608) was a New Christian. Besides writing works on the Portuguese language, De Leão wrote: Chronicas dos Reis de Portugal (1600) and Descriçao do Reino de Portugal (1610). See A.S. Saraiva, H.P. Salomon, I.S.D. Sassoon, The Marrano Factory: The Portuguese Inquisition and Its New Christians (2001) p.121
