Menachem Mendel Schneersohn of Lubavitch (author Responsa Tzemach Tzedek), who held him in the very highest esteem. In 1855, R. Shneur Zalman was appointed Rabbi of Polotsk, and in 1868, Rabbi of Lublin. In 1892, he settled in Jerusalem, where he founded and presided over the city's Chassidic Beth Din.
