This manuscript version of Marpei LaNephesh would appear to be a variation of the original text, a condensed version of R. Aaron Berechiah's Ma'avar Yabok (Venice 1748) in conformity to the rite of Ferrara. Fano is a distinguished Italian family. The name, after the Italian town of Fano on the Adriatic coast, has been in use since roughly the year 1400. Distinguished members of the family include the kabbalists R. Menachem Azariah (Ram"a) da Fano and his kinsman R. Ezra Fano (16th-17th centuries). See EJ, Vol. VI, cols. 1174-75
