Solomon Luria (1510?-1574) was arguably the greatest Polish rabbi of his day and is greatly appreciated for his clarity and erudite presentation. His comments to this classic code by Moses of Coucy are widely quoted throughout rabbinic literature. The editor, R. Elijah Loanz, was a disciple of the MaHaRa"L of Prague and an outstanding kabbalist of Germany. A grandson of R. Joselmann of Rosheim, he was popularly known as R. Elijah Ba’al Shem
