Conder, C.R. and Kitchener, H.H. Map of Western Palestine in 26 sheets from surveys conducted for the Palestine Exploration Fund...during the years 1872-77

The English archeologist, cartographer and surveyor Claude Reignier Conder (1848-1910), was the British army officer in charge of the survey of Western Palestine on behalf of the Palestine Exporation Fund. In 1874 he was assisted by Horatio Herbert Kitchener (1850-1916), British Field Marshal and imperial administrator. Theirs was the first successful mapping of the entire region since Napoleon’s attempt, making this the first scientifically accurate map of the Holy Land.
